Re: Segment mesh and refine to preserve polyline?
Thanks for the reply Daniel. I think I can get the job done by importing the facet polyline into Rhino, extruding a surface along Z to intersect the CSF mesh, and then splitting/trimming in Rhino. That usually works to create new faces/vertices, preserving the intersecting polyline. Maybe something ...

Segment mesh and refine to preserve polyline?
I have a coarse mesh generated using CSF Filter. This mesh is supposed to be of a roadway. The nature of the CSF filter is make the mesh as big as the bounding box, so it will spill outside of the roadway points. I want to clip the mesh nicely to match the roadway edge. Using 2D Polygon Facet tool, ...

Re: Export multiple selections as PLYs
Hi Joe, Thanks for your reply! My issue is that I need the point clouds exported separately. They depict frames from a dynamic recording, i.e., it isn't capturing the same static scene. This was output from Microsoft's Azure Kinect, which provides such data. I have 75 frames (point clouds) that I'm ...

Export multiple selections as PLYs
Hi Daniel, I noticed that if I select multiple clouds and try to export, the option for PLY export vanishes. I can do bin, ASCII Cloud, e57, dxf, shp, and pov. I see that there is very little difference between PLY and space separated ASCII. Really the only difference is in the header. I am using th...

Re: Subsample .e57 cloud and then estimate normals with sensor
Hi Daniel,
Yes, I am talking about the subsampling tool. What is that other child with the paintbrush next to it in your tree? Could that have something to do with it?

Camera settings input not user friendly
Hi Daniel, Back with more feedback. The Camera Settings dialog is not very friendly at all to input. I am used to setting the Camera center in the world frame. In this case, it appears to actually be set on the camera frame, which constantly changes with rotation adjustment. Also, the rotation cente...

Re: Subsample .e57 cloud and then estimate normals with sensor
Hi Daniel, I have downloaded the latest 2.13.alpha 11/24/2022 release. Still, when I subsample the original cloud the sensor settings do not carry over. I need to subsample the cloud to around 1M points prior to computing normals so that CC doesn't get hung up forever. I did find a work-around by cr...

Subsample .e57 cloud and then estimate normals with sensor
I need to subsample a cloud before computing normals. When I subsample the cloud it becomes a separate object and loses the associated TLS/GBL sensor. Thus, when I go to compute normals on the subsampled cloud, the option to use sensor is grayed out. How can I copy the associated TLS/GBL to the down...

Re: Rotation center for Edit -> Translate/Rotate tool
Interesting... Thanks for the information. I ended up just exporting to Rhino, transforming, and then brought it back into CloudCompare. I will keep this info in mind for next time though.

Rotation center for Edit -> Translate/Rotate tool
Hi, Where is the precise location of the rotation center when using this tool? Is it the center of the bounding box? Are there any other functionalities in CloudCompare that allow me to choose where the rotation center is? In my case I just want to rotate about the point cloud's origin, i.e., I am t...
