Y-up vs Z-up coordinate system

Post by BChazaly »

Hi all,
Has anybody already faced the following issue ?
When opening a 3D mesh (OBJ format) in Cloudcompare on my computer, I can see it in what i consider as a "good" local coordinate system. The mesh verticality is oriented on the Z axis. When editing the OBJ file on a text editor, I can see that the vertices are stored in this "good" coordinate system.
When my client opens the same file in Cloudcompare on his computer, he sees it rotated around X axis by 90°, such as the verticality is aligned to the Y axis. Same model, same software, but not the same orientation when viewing.
I've red that the Y-UP coordinate system is commonly used in video games and virtual reality but i don't understand how Cloudcompare could jump from a Z-UP to a Y-UP configuration. Could it be related to the graphic card settings ?
Any thoughts ?
Thanks !

Hardly... This is very confusing. Is it the same version of CloudCompare? (but I don't remember any bug related to that anyway)
