Losing colour and orientation on export

Post by Lourens1190 »

G'day everyone,

I am VERY new to working with point clouds, so pardon my newbie questions.
Firstly, thanks to everyone (especially Daniel) for your hard work and contributions for an amazing product and forum!

As per the subject, I am losing colour and orientation on export.

I have converted my Point Cloud to a mesh and exported it to fbx. ascii and when imported in Navisworks, for some reason the colour result is not as expected.
Also, the (Z) orientation is not in the direction it should be.

What have I done wrong?

Thanks!

So one thing is that the colors should be exported as 'per-vertex colors'. Not all programs manage per-vertex colors. Otherwise there's another issue (but it's hard to tell).

And for the Z axis, it's maybe also a question of convention. CloudCompare reads the points as they are organized in the input file, and then outputs them in the same order (x, y, z). Therefore I would be surprised that CloudCompare changes the original data orientation.
