Calculation of cut & fill (Earthworks) volume

Post by mahdi.ghafourian »

Hi buddy,

I am a new user of the fantastic open source CloudCompare. I have two simple *.XYZ files which are the models of a small ground area (DTM) in different times.

I am interested to calculate the volumes of cutting & filling activities between these two times. Is there any tools in the software to give me the result? Do you have any recommendations?

Really looking to hear from you guys,

Regards,

M Gh

Hi,

Sadly there's no volume calculation tool in CC. With the "Tools > Projection > Raster" tool you can easily create regular grids on both entities with the same pattern. Then it would be possible to compute rather easily the difference between both grids to estimate the volume (with Excel or Matlab for instance).

Thanks Daniel,

I imported to XVZ files, then I selected them. but i can not find "Raster" tool through Projection ( I am dealing with Version: 2.5.3.beta(20140211) [Windows 64 bits])

Well you should see the "Tools > Projection > Rasterize (Height Grid generation)" menu? You have to select your cloud also before calling the tool.
