SAVING e57 with panorama images extremely SLOW

Post by NotAnotherUsername »

Hi Daniel,

I received an e57 file with 154 embedded jpg panorama images inside of it.

The original file was about 4Gb in size and took about a minute to load on my laptop.

I edited the point cloud and then saved it to a new e57 file.

It took about 45 minutes for it to save the file.

Any idea as to why it would take so long to save to a new e57 file?

Cheers,

S.

One thing that we realized with another user recently is that E57 files come with compressed JPG files. But CC doesn't compress them back when saving (as CC remains agnostic of the source, usage and destination of these images). This can lead to a very different file size sadly.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the info :-)

I'm not too concerned about the increased file size though.

I was just curious if there's a way to speed up the saving of the point cloud with the embedded JPEGs to file?

Forty-five minutes is way too long :-(

Cheers,

Yes, for the saving time, I don't really know where it comes from. Are you saving on a fast drive? I don't see what could explain this...

Hi Daniel,

I'm just saving the data back to the same internal SSD drive in my laptop.

You would think it would be just as fast saving as it was loading especially since some of the point cloud data was deleted during the editing process.

I will try saving to the other internal disk on my laptop (it's a completely separate hard disk and not just a separate partition).

Cheers,

Hi Daniel,

I tried saving to my other disk but same result - still extremely slow :-(

Can I send you some data so you can test with it?
