Ellipsoid shape detection

Hi everyone,
I need to automatically detect individual pebbles (ellipsoids) from a large PC and retrieve their dimensions. It doesn't appear to be possible from the qRansacSD plugin. qCanupo could detect classes of pebbles (testing still needed) but not return their dimensions.

I would appreciate any hint,

Personally I don't have much clue... Apart from adding a new primitive to the qRansacSD (this is theoretically possible but you'll need to find someone with good development skills).
