overlapping

If we have two point clouds, one representing a part that is to be modelled, another the fixture that is holding it. Given that we have systematic and random errors added to these (so that they represent the real part and fixture) and so that there becomes overlapping between the spaces. In what ways can this be fixed. Does anyone know any good algorithms for this particular case?

Sorry but I'm not sure to fully understand your question. Can you maybe rephrase it or post a snapshot of the cloud and the (overlaping?) area?

I don't have the clouds yet. But basically my task will be to have two clouds, one representing a fixture and one the part that is to be fixed on the fixture. However, errors, random and systematic will be added to these to represent scanned point clouds. When these are to be assembled there will be an overlap because of these deviations, and my task is to find a way to adress these issues. I don't know if it became more clear.

Oh, it all depends on the noise level. And of course it depends on what you want to do: if it's alignment (I presume) then it should be ok as long as you use either clearly recognizable connecting points (with the 'Align' tool), or if you set the right value foor the overlap parameter (for ICP).
