meshing a point cloud

Post by Carol »

Hi!
I am trying to mesh a point cloud obtained from Matlab. It is a small part of model that I should import in a FE software.

I imported the point cloud (as txt file) in CloudCompare and I computed the normal, applied the Poisson Surface Reconstruction. I removed the external bubbles from the SF density tool, but the obtained model has not a smooth surface (as you can see in the picture).
Have you ever had this kind of problem or do you know if I am missing something?

Kind regards,
Carolina

Are there points only on the surface or are there points 'inside'? If you have points inside then Poisson won''t be able to reconstruct it properly. Same thing for computing the normals...

Thank you very much for the reply!
The points are all inside the volume, I am going to obtain only the surface and try again!

Thanks again!
