Floor Flatness

Post by SaeeddeeaS »

Hello All,

I have scanned a building and I need to calculate the floor flatness for its concrete slabs. At least, I need to have an elevation map for them. I was wondering if you could guide me what is the best outcome that I can get from CloudCompare for this purpose and how. I am very new to this topic so I would be grateful if you could explain me step by step.

I have scanned the building by Faro and have registered the point clouds in Scene.

Thank you in advance,

Kind regards,
daniel

You have to generate or create a plane that represent the 'ideal' floor:
- either you create a plane with the 'Edit > Plane > Create' method (in the 2.8 beta version) or the 'File > Primitive factory' for the older versions (but it might be less easy)
- or you segment the points of the floor and use the 'Tools > Fit > Plane' method to compute the best-fitting plane (if this makes sense)

Eventually, you can select the point cloud and the generated plane entity, and use the 'Tools > Distances > Cloud/Mesh distances' method. This will output the signed distances of the points relatively to the plane (make sure the plane extents are wide enough to cover all the floor points).

And then you can create your own color scale to get a nicer result:
