signed distance scale : side curve

When you compute de distance between clouds you get the signed scale with a curve on its side. I wanted to be sure about what it refers to. I assume it shows the concentration of the points on the scale? If yes is it a simple [n°point/part of the scale] or is there some other equations applied to it like an average or else?

Normally it's just the (distance) scalar field histogram. You can display it in a more readable manner with 'Edit > Scalar fields > Show histogram'.
