Global Shift/Scale

Post by cadkay »

Hello,

I have had the same problem with CC for awhile now and I have tried everything to try to solve it.

Aligning the mesh with the point cloud has been a real struggle. I have used the aligning, point picking tool (with adjust scale ticked), registering (e.g ICP-adjust scale ticked) and segment tool but nothing seem to be working.

First, I thought it was the scale factor I wasn't getting right but even when I apply the scale factor they still doesn't align properly. I have played with the figures of the scale factor figures to see if I didn't calculate it right but nothing seems to be working.

The one thing I find very weird is the ICP tool after using the point picking tool or any of the aligning tool. Using ICP after using any of these tools either flips the mesh round or rotate it off the reference cloud.

Background info - when I upload both clouds on CC, the point cloud opens in the right location but the mesh (which is an fbx file) opens at a larger scale and wrong location. Because I couldn't find a solution to the scaling I thought it would make things a lot easier if both clouds would open in the right location so I began to investigate why the mesh wasn't opening in the right location since they both have the same co-ordinates.

I noticed when the pointcloud opened in naviswork it opened in feet (I am aware CC does not work with units) so I decided to do an fbx export of the model in feet but this did not open it in the right location on CC either.

Then, I decided to save the model as a SAT file, opened it in AutoCAD, exported as FBX (with unit set to mm) and then opened in CC, which came up with a dialog box suggesting global shift because the coordinates were too large. I clicked "yes to all" but model came up looking urm....deconstructed...The building appeared to have been split into two - west of the building was moved to the east and vise versa and model was a lot larger.

This the only problem I am having with CC now.

Please help :(

Is it possible for you to share the cloud and the (original) FBX mesh with me?

The FBX format is rarely used, so there might be some issues.
